NC poultry processor to donate food boxes to needy

Published: October 11, 2013

— Poultry processor Mountaire Farms said it will give 2,200 food boxes to needy families in the Cape Fear region this Thanksgiving.

The Fayetteville Observer reports (http://bit.ly/1bjsfhx ) the boxes will be distributed Nov. 23, the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Mountaire said it contacted local churches, nonprofit agencies and food banks to find people in need.

Company officials said each box will contain a plump roaster, canned peas, corn, cranberry sauce, gravy, stuffing mix and brownie mix, all of which can be cooked when and how the recipient wishes.

Mountaire has held such giveaways for 19 years in the region around its Delaware headquarters. It said its Thanksgiving for Thousands program serves almost 50,000 people in three states and has fed 250,000 people over the years.
