2 Winston-Salem men charged in woman's death

Published: October 11, 2013

— Winston-Salem police have arrested two men after a woman was found shot to death inside her home following a break-in.

Authorities say 22-year-old Daniel Aaron Benson and 21-year-old Steven George Assimos are charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The men are being held without bond in the Forsyth County Detention Center. It's not known if they have attorneys.

Police responded to a home break-in in progress Thursday night, and a SWAT team was called in after reports that the armed suspect or suspects may still be inside the home. Officers entered the home and found the body of 43-year-old Sheila Pace Gooden.
