KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One day after losing reserve center Brendan Haywood for 12 weeks to a stress fracture, the Charlotte Bobcats have suffered an injury to another center.
Free agent center Al Jefferson suffered a sprained right ankle in the third quarter of Friday nights 86-75 loss to the Miami Heat and had to be helped off the court.
A team spokesman said Jefferson will be reevaluated Saturday in Milwaukee, where the Bobcats will play another preseason game against the Bucks.
LeBron James scored 20 points and Norris Cole added 15 to give Miami the preseason victory at the Sprint Center.
Mario Chalmers, who played at nearby Kansas, scored 10 points for Miami (3-0), while Michael Beasley, who played at Kansas State, added 13.
Cole scored eight points, including two 3-pointers, in the fourth quarter to keep the Bobcats (0-2) at bay.
Jefferson led Charlotte with 11 points and Jeff Taylor had 10.
Chris Bosh added seven points, while the final member of Miamis big three, Dwyane Wade, sat the game out after playing Thursday night against Detroit. The Heat wanted to keep Wade from playing on consecutive nights since hes coming off a knee injury last season.
