Adrian Peterson's tragic news affects LeBron James

Published: October 12, 2013

Devastated by the death of Adrian Peterson's 2-year-old son, LeBron James offered support to Peterson and his family on Friday both on Twitter and before the Heat's exhibition game against the Charlotte Bobcats.

Peterson's son was the victim of alleged abuse on Friday in Sioux Falls, S.D., and news of the tragedy rocked James, who is close friends with Peterson. James expressed both sorrow and anger on Twitter.

"So Damn sad man!" James tweeted. "Makes no sense at all. Innocent kid with dreams gets taking away by a coward with no dreams at all!"

James, who has two sons of his own, went on to add "it hurts me to my heart and stomach."

Frustrated, James said the alleged child abuser "will get what's coming to him!!"

James reiterated his support for Peterson before Friday's game.

"I respect him as a father and as a role model and also having two boys of my own, it hit home, so it's sucks that it's happened," James said. "Our prayers go up to his family and his son and it sucks that we even have to have this discussion. I'm absolutely angry because it's an innocent kid that's taken away because of somebody's stupidity.

"I don't know the guy that did it, but there's nothing a 2-year-old kid could say or do or harm any grown up that could make them do that. So, there's a lot of hurt, a lot of anger and it's messed up."
