— A good appetite or some cooking skills will come in handy this weekend in Rocky Mount

The city is hosting the sixth annual Eastern Carolina BBQ Throw Down on Saturday in front of the train station. It began on Friday and continues on Saturday.

This weekend's festivities include a barbecue competition, food vendors, a live performance by The Embers and kid's activities.

There will be 56 teams from along the East Coast and from as far away as Colorado showing off their skills in the barbecue competition, which is sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society. Contestants will be competing in chicken, ribs, pork and beef brisket categories. The winner gets a $5,000 prize.
