DENVER — Lafayette officials are urging some residents to boil their water following a positive test for E. coli contamination.

The Denver Post reports (http://bit.ly/1egiZwt ) the affected areas include homes east of 95th Street and north of Baseline Road and a small area south of Baseline Road near Indian Peaks Drive. The boil order was issued Friday evening after officials consulted with inspectors from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Residents will know if they are affected if city workers place a door hanger notice on their front door. If they don't get the notice, they don't have to boil their water.

Health officials say those affected should boil their water for at least three minutes before using it.
