A low pressure system ushered wet weather into the Pacific Northwest and the northwest Great Basin on Saturday, while strong thunderstorms pounded the Midwest.
Light rain showers moved through Washington, Oregon, and parts of Idaho early on Saturday as a low pressure system sat over northern Nevada. Light snow flurries also fell at high elevations in the northern Cascades. The Southwest stayed clear of precipitation on Saturday, although temperatures stayed cool. A ridge of high pressure that was situated over Colorado kept the four corners region clear throughout Saturday.
Just to the east, a cold frontal boundary stretched from Texas to Wisconsin, which triggered strong thunderstorms throughout the Mississippi Valley and parts of the Ohio Valley. Mena, Arkansas reported a mid day total of 1.40 inches of rain, while Athens, Texas reported a mid day total of 1.05 inches of rain. Strong winds were also reported behind in the northern Plains, as Minot AFB, North Dakota reported wind speeds of 52 mph.
Coastal flood advisories were issued along the Mid-Atlantic coast earlier Saturday as a low pressure system continued to usher wet weather into the region. Moderate showers fell in Maryland, Delaware ,and New Jersey in the morning, but started to taper off by the early afternoon. Meanwhile, the remainder of the East Coast avoided wet weather on Saturday as high pressure was situated over the Southeast. .
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday have ranged from a morning low of 17 degrees at Leadville, Colo. to a midday high of 94 degrees at Edinburg, Texas
