Author talks about growing up in Amana Colonies

— An author who grew up in the Amana Colonies is talking about her experiences.

Madeline Roemig Bendorf will lead a reading Sunday at the State Historical Society of Iowa in conjunction with the Iowa City Book Festival. It's being presented by the state Department of Cultural Affairs.

Bendorf will discuss her memoir, "Growing Up in Amana," which talks about the famous Amana Colonies and what makes it successful. The event is free and open to the public.

Bendorf is a founder of the Amana Heritage Society and helped establish the Museum of Amana History in 1968.
