— Detectives on Sunday were interviewing a brother of a woman Knightdale police suspect was a homicide victim.

John Wesley Winters, 70, was arrested in Prince William County, Va. on Thursday on a vehicle-theft charge after troopers found him on Interstate 95 inside a car belonging to his sister, Seanne Winters Barnette, 55. Knightdale police found her dead in her apartment on Saturday.

“He seemed disoriented and confused when troopers found him,” said Knightdale police chief Jason Godwin.

Winters is listed as living at the same address as Barnette: 1025 Sappony Drive, Apt. 202. He was charged in Virginia with felony possession of a stolen vehicle. Godwin said Knightdale police are not looking for other suspects in connection with Barnette's death.

Godwin declined to say why Knightdale police believe Barnette's death may have been a homicide.

“There were signs and symptoms that categorically ...” he said and stopped. “She did not die of natural causes.”

Knightdale police hope to evaluate the 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Winters was found in early this week, Godwin said.
