Carolina Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said Monday that goalie Anton Khudobin would be placed on injured reserve but that his injury may not be as serious as first feared.

Khudobin was injured Sunday in the second period against the Phoenix Coyotes when he left his net to play a puck, then fell awkwardly. He was helped off the ice.

Rutherford did not specify the nature of the injury but said it was not a knee or ankle injury.

“It’s probably the best-case scenario,” Rutherford said. “He’ll be out at least a week on IR but maybe not for too long.”

Rutherford said goalie Justin Peters would be recalled from the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL.
