Antonio Sorrento: McCrory needs to find cures for state government

October 16, 2013

As a longtime state government employee, I can say that Gov. Pat McCrory was on target with a lot of his opinions on state government. There are redundancies, inefficiencies and seat warmers as well as processes and procedures that simply don’t add value.

What the governor hasn’t shown is any sense of what to do about it, and this is because he (along with most outsiders) has no understanding of the problem. The problem is most senior managers have absolutely no interest in being good stewards of state dollars. They are motivated solely by defending their little empire and fighting for their white collar soldiers. They consistently and aggressively fill positions even when the workload is largely a product of smoke and mirrors.

Congratulations to McCrory on recognizing the symptoms – that’s easy, but there is no indication he is close to a cure.
