Duke women's golf ranked No. 5 in nation

— The Duke women’s golf team moved to No.5 in the latest Golf World/WGCA Division I College Women’s Coaches’ Poll that was released on Wednesday. The Blue Devils are coming off a victory on Sunday at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill.

Southern California remained No.1 with 13 first place votes. N.C. State is No.12 and North Carolina No.15.

In three tournaments, Duke has tied for fourth, tied for third and a won. At the Tar Heel Invitational, the Blue Devils won by 11 strokes against a field featuring four top 10 teams.


St. Aug’s: Three Saint Augustine’s players were honored by the CIAA on Tuesday for their performances in a 21-14 win over Livingstone. Shonquez Nelson was named defensive lineman of the week, Chaz Robinson was linebacker of the week and A.J. Gilford was rookie of the week.


St. Aug’s: Defensive specialist Kayla Cason is CIAA rookie of the week and coach Nikki Bynum Bumpass is coach of the week.

Cason tallied 16 digs and three service aces in helping the Lady Falcons post a 2-0 record last week. She had eight digs in both wins over Shaw University and Livingstone College.

The Lady Falcons are tied for second place in the Southern Division with Fayetteville State at 4-2. Their CIAA record is 7-5 and their overall mark is 7-8.
