Utility work after wreck closes St. Mary's Street near Glenwood in Raleigh

— Police closed St. Mary's Street near Glenwood Avenue on Thursday morning because a car wreck knocked out a utility pole and crews needed to work in the street to replace it.

The accident happened about 7:45 a.m., and police said about 10 a.m. that crews would need several more hours to finish repairs. The roads were reopened around 2:45 p.m.

Traffic lights were out at the intersection, and police were directing traffic and asking drivers to avoid the area if possible.

No serious injuries were reported from the accident.

Progress Energy listed eight customers as being without power because of the wreck.
