Man held on assault charge accused of having phony gift debit cards

— A man arrested Tuesday on charges from an Oct. 1 assaualt was charged Wednesday with having 40 bogus gift cards embossed with numbers stolen from credit cards.

Police had arrested Pa Gibbi Njie, 25, of 2910 Calvary Drive in Raleigh on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Wednesday they charged him with a felony count, having five or more counterfeit instruments.

An arrest warrant said Njie had 40 gift debit cards embossed with numbers stolen from credit cards.

Detectives Tuesday charged Njie with the assault after questioning at their Atlantic Avenue headquarters.

They had obtained a warrant for his arrest a few days after Thierno M. Diallo was stabbed in the arm on Oct. 1 at 4011 Capital Blvd.

Njie, who appeared in court Wednesday on the assault charge, was being held in lieu of $450,000 bail on both charges and was due to appear again Thursday on the new count.
