Raleigh police charge man had at least 10 pounds of marijuana

From staff reportsOctober 18, 2013

— A 32-year-old man had at least 10 pounds of marijuana when police arrested him at a multifamily house on Stewart Drive, according to an arrest warrant.

Police arrested Maurice Donyale Kersey on Wednesday afternoon at 2604 Stewart Drive, according to an arrest report, and charged him with trafficking in marijuana.

He was charged with that crime in Guilford County in September 2011, convicted last year and served a year in prison, state records show.

The Wake County arrest warrant said Kersey had between 10 and 50 pounds, the lowest quantity for a trafficking charge under state law.

The arrest warrant listed Kersey as living on Fox Fire Drive in Henderson, but booking officers listed him as saying he had no permanent address.

In 2009, he was convicted of robbery in Franklin County, state prison records show.

Kersey’s bail was set at $150,000 when he was arrested Wednesday and reduced to $100,000 after a court appearance Thursday.

He was being held at the Wake County Detention Center and was scheduled for another court appearance Nov. 5.
