Matt Haugan: ACA taxing on businesses, families

October 21, 2013

I am a small-business owner in Cary, a husband and father of two children, ages 9 and 6. As great as some in our government can make Obamacare sound, it’s far worse than most of us skeptics thought it would be.

I work in the medical industry and have been greatly affected by the medical device tax that the ACA has imposed. Nearly everything I buy to fabricate the products I sell to dentists has been taxed by 2.3 percent. What are we supposed to do? Eat that tax and take home even less or pass on that tax to the consumer? Reluctantly we passed on that tax and raised our prices across the board by 2.3 percent.

Last week we received a letter from Blue Cross Blue Shield explaining that our plan was being raised from $320 a month to $750 a month directly due to the new regulations of the ACA. Our plan is a family plan with a $10,000 deductible.

Obamacare has greatly affected our lives and only in negative ways. Obamacare is making it more expensive across the board for health care of all kinds and hurting many small families like mine.
