Chatham County Schools names principal of the year

October 23, 2013

— Chatham County Schools has named Kimberly Taylor of Bonlee School as its principal of the year.

Taylor joined the school district in 2007, serving as assistant principal at Virginia Cross Elementary and principal of SAGE Academy before taking her current job in 2011. The selection committee based its decision on colleague nominations, interviews and observations in classrooms.

Bonlee, which teaches students in kindergarten through eighth grade, has implemented a program called The Leader In Me, during which her school has seen fewer discipline referrals and “more students taking responsibility for their actions,” superintendent Derrick Jordan said a statement.

“Under her leadership, Bonlee School is making great strides in the area of academic success,” Jordan said.

Taylor learned of the honor Friday and now will compete for the State Principal of the Year award.
