Penguins to keep Maatta in NHL

The Sports NetworkOctober 24, 2013

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Thursday their intention to keep rookie defenseman Olli Maatta with the club for the remainder of the season.

"Based on his play, we believe this is the best decision for Olli and the Penguins," Pittsburgh general manager Ray Shero said. "We want to thank Mark and Dale Hunter and the London Knights for their patience and understanding."

Maatta, the Pens' first-round pick (22nd overall) in the 2012 draft, has totaled one goal and two assists in nine games thus far.

The 19-year-old posted eight goals and 38 points in 57 games last year for the Knights, who won the Ontario Hockey League title and gained a berth in the Memorial Cup.
