Josh McIntyre: Are drone strikes terrorism?

October 24, 2013

How alarming to learn in the Oct. 23 article “Legality of drones questioned” that President Obama has authorized the CIA to use tactics pulled from the playbook of terrorists. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch report that – in our name – missiles are launched once to eliminate an identified terrorist without regard to the women and children civilians in the vicinity and moments later to slaughter those rushing to the rescue of the wounded.

In his role as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Sen. Richard Burr has a special responsibility to demand increased transparency from the Obama administration. In particular, Burr should demand prompt, thorough, independent and impartial investigations of drone strikes that resulted in civilian deaths. When the United States commits war crimes, the blood is on all of our hands.
