Canes' Cam Ward out 3-4 weeks after injury versus Wild

— Ten games into the season and the Carolina Hurricanes may already have reached a state of emergency after an injury to goalie Cam Ward.

Ward was lost to a lower-body injury early in their game Thursday against the Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center. The Canes announced Ward would be sidelined three to four weeks and that goalie Mike Murphy would be recalled from the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL.

Ward was hurt as he lunged to his right on a shot by the Wild's Mikael Granlund that was wide-left of the net. With 15 minutes, 53 seconds left in the first period, Ward was taken to the locker room for treatment and backup goalie Justin Peters entered the game.

The Canes already were without goalie Anton Khudobin. He sustained a lower-body injury Oct. 13 in a game against the Phoenix Coyotes. Peters was recalled from the Checkers of the AHL on an emergency basis after Khudobin's injury.

Ward suffered a knee injury in early March that ended his 2013 season but had recovered.
