Recap: Toronto FC vs. Montreal

The Sports NetworkOctober 26, 2013

Toronto, ON ( - Robert Earnshaw netted the only goal of the match on Saturday as Toronto FC closed its regular season with a 1-0 victory over Canadian rivals Montreal Impact at BMO Field.

Despite having already been eliminated from playoff contention, the home- standing Toronto FC came out with more energy and had the better of the play through the majority of the first half and earned the only goal of the match just 16 minutes in.

The tally seemed to materialize out of almost nothing as Toronto capitalized on some sloppy play at the back by Montreal as they collected a turnover in the penalty area and Jonathan Osorio ripped a shot on goal that was directed home by Robert Earnshaw.

Montreal sent numbers forward in the second half knowing that a victory would ensure them a playoff spot and it appeared that Marco Di Vaio had scored 25 minutes from time, but the goal was disallowed due to a handball.

The Impact continued to push in the final 15 minutes, but they struggled to connect passes and lacked a finishing touch, which they ultimately paid for as TFC held on to claim the win.
