Wise Dan gets post 8 for Mile defense

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Horse of the Year Wise Dan has drawn post 8 for Saturday's Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita. The 6-year-old gelding will face nine rivals in the turf event.

Wise Dan, trained by Charles LoPresti, will be ridden by Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez in an effort to repeat in the race.

"He couldn't be doing any better," LoPresti said about the 6-year-old champion turf horse.

The gelding, owned by Morton Fink, will have a chance to turn the tables on Silver Max who beat the champion in the Shadwell Mile when the race was moved off the turf to Keeneland's main track.

Here is the full field for the Mile in post position order: No Jet Lag, Mike Smith; Silentio, Rafael Bejarano; Silver Max, Robby Albarado; Obviously, Joe Talamo; Olympic Glory (IRE), Richard Hughes; Bright Thought, Julien Leparoux; He Be Fire N Ice, Victor Espinoza; Wise Dan, John Velazquez; Cristoforo Colombo, Ryan Moore and Za Approval, Joel Rosario.
