Doomsday Preppers (9pm, National Geographic Channel) - If you just know civilization’s days are numbered and you have a backup plan for your backup plan, you probably already watch “Doomsday Preppers” and know that the new season starts tonight. This season, Preppers test the limits of ingenuity with even more tricked-out doomsday survival machines, high tech shelters and special escape routes. In tonight’s premiere, an Oregon man designs a fortress to protect his family in the wake of an economic disaster.

American Experience: War of the Worlds (9pm, UNC-TV) - A special recalling the 1938 radio broadcast of H.G. Wells’ “War of the Worlds” by Orson Welles and his “Mercury Theater on the Air” crew, which occurred on Mischief Night. Some listeners believed the program’s account of a Martian invasion to be true and panicked due to the format, which featured “reporters” breaking into “regular programming” with realistic accounts of an in-progress attack. Included are comments from film historian Peter Bogdanovich and Welles’ daughter, Chris Welles Feder.
The Goldbergs (9pm, ABC) - Beverly is disappointed when the kids all make alternate plans for Halloween. Meanwhile, Adam hangs out with a group of older kids and is unsure of what to do when he learns of their plans for the evening.
