Michael J. McCrann: Forillo’s view not shared

October 29, 2013

Your Oct. 22 front-page article “Constituents rethink Ellmers” featured Southern Pines and Pinehurst as a bastion of Republican persuasion. Pinehurst mayor Nancy Foy Forillo was quoted, “I think (U.S. Sen.) Ted Cruz is right on the money. There are many of us who wish we had a Ted Cruz to stand up for us.”

As a resident of Southern Pines and Pinehurst for 37 years, I would point out that many people here do not favor shutting down the federal government for ideological reasons. Nor do they favor living under the delusion that confrontation trumps fact-based reason in governance.

Southern Pines and Moore County are loaded with people who hold robust and different views based on logical thinking and concern for community rather than polemic and conjuring.
