Area fishing report

Oregon Inlet

Offshore boats reported success with blackfin tuna, yellowfin tuna and several citation wahoo. Inshore, puppy drum, flounder and speckled trout were biting throughout the week. Nearshore, bluefish have been caught. Contact: Oregon Inlet Fishing Center 252-441-6301,


Puppy drum have been spotted on the jetties. Bluefish are biting off Frisco Pier. Large drum have been caught off Avon Pier. Spot, bluefish and sea mullet are still biting in the northern area of the pier. Contact: Red Drum Tackle 252-995-5414,; offshore news, Oden’s Dock 252-986-2555,; or

Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Weather in the area has kept several offshore boats docked, but anglers have had success with wahoo, sailfish and blackfin tuna when they’ve gone out. Near the beaches, Spanish mackerel, flounder, trout and false albacore are biting. In the creeks, red drum and trout have also been caught. Topsail Island

Bluefish and S panish mackerel are biting off the pier and in the surf. Spot, Virginia mullet and flounder have also been caught in the area. Offshore, yellowfin tuna and wahoo were caught. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle 910-328-1887,

Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach

Offshore boats brought in good amounts of wahoo, blackfin tuna and bottomfish. In the surf, Spanish, blues and spots were caught. Inshore anglers reported flounder and puppy dru m are biting. Contact: Tex’s Tackle 910-791-1763,


Falls Lake

Largemouth Bass have moved up the lake and are hitting on spinnerbaits, jigs and crank baits. Crappie are biting at 8-10 foot depths on minnows. Catfish are biting large minnows, night crawlers and chicken livers. White bass have tapered off, but Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 250.68, full pool 264.8. Kerr Lake

Crappie have been found over structure and brush. Bass fishing has been tough in the area. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 300, full pool 320. Contact: Bobcat’s Bait & Tackle 434-374-8381;
