Teen charged in Durham apartment breezway murder

An 18-year-old man faces a murder charge in an Oct. 20 slaying in Durham.

Montreal Malik Russell, 18, was arrested Thursday at the Wake Inn in Raleigh by federal marshals and the Raleigh Police Department. The arrest came 11 days after police found Demario Lucas, 23, dead in a breezeway at the Campus Crossings apartment complex, 1400 East Cornwallis Road.

Officers said Lucas had been shot, according to police reports. A second man, unidentified in a city of Durham news release, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the ankle.

Russell’s address and current location wasn’t immediately available Thursday.
