College Notebook: NC State's women's soccer trips Deacons

— N.C. State’s women’s soccer team upset No. 23 Wake Forest, defeating the Deacons 2-1 on Thursday at Dail Soccer Stadium in Raleigh.

Following an early Wake Forest (10-6-2, 5-6-2 ACC) goal, senior Meagan Proper equalized for the Wolfpack (7-12-0, 2-11-0) in the 17th minute before Brittany Stanko scored the deciding tally in the 47th minute of the match.

Duke: Senior women’s soccer standouts Mollie Pathman and Laura Weinberg have been selected to the Academic All-District III first team, following a vote by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Men’s Soccer

Duke: Juniors Sean Davis and Nat Eggleston were named to the College Sports Information Directors Association of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District III first team.

North Carolina: Sophomore Jonathan Campbell has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 men’s soccer team, announced by CoSIDA. As an Academic All-District honoree, Campbell is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.

Football

Duke: The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Football Hall of Fame announced Duke redshirt senior offensive tackle Perry Simmons has been named one of 16 recipients of the 2013 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Award.

Simmons, a Raleigh native, owns a 3.83 grade point average as a civil engineering major. He was a 2012 Academic All-America second team selection, has earned three All-ACC Academic Football Team honors and four ACC Academic Honor Roll citations.
