Suspect, victims named in Beltline collision

— A two-car collision injured three people and closed all four eastbound lanes of the I-440 Beltline Saturday.

Police said a 1999 Porsche driven by Hunter Macon Howell, 23, struck the rear of a 2011 Ford Focus driven by Shelby Warren Wallace, 71, at about 4 a.m. Both were transported to WakeMed along with Marvin Lee Pendergraph, 66, a passenger in Wallace’s car.

Howell was charged with two counts of felony serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, not having state-required insurance and operating a vehicle with a revoked registration plate. Howell was transported to the Wake County Detention Center.

Traffic on I-440 East was detoured for approximately four hours.
