CARY — With a 2-1 victory over the San Antonio Scorpions, the Carolina RailHawks captured the Woosnam Cup that awards the team with the most points over the fall and spring seasons.
After going down a goal in the first half, two second-half goals from Brian Shriver brought the RailHawks back on top and extended the home unbeaten streak to 16.
Its important that we were able to get this win and extend our streak at WakeMed Soccer Park, RailHawks coach Colin Clarke said. We keep momentum going into 2014 and people know that this is a difficult place to play.
With 15 goals scored, Shriver finished the season as the NASL Golden Boot winner. Shriver is the second RailHawks player to finish the year as the Golden Boot winner and the third straight year of a RailHawks players scoring double-digit goals.
Shrivers goals came in the 67th and 85th minutes of play. His first was a penalty kick conversion after RailHawks forward Nick Addlery was fouled in the box. Shrivers second on the night was an blast from 18-yards out that left the San Antonio keeper helpless.
