Authorities reopen I-440 in Raleigh after morning wrecks

Traffic backs up on Interstate 440 westbound near Brentwood Road after a wreck Monday closed several lanes.


— Police reopened Interstate 440 after two wrecks in the westbound lanes near Brentwood Road and New Bern Avenue closed the highway Monday morning.

The first crash happened about 9:15 a.m. Monday near the Brentwood Road interchange.

About 30 minutes later, fire and police were dispatched to the highway at New Bern Avenue.

All westbound traffic was being diverted onto New Bern Avenue, police said.

The road was completely reopened about 11 a.m.

One person reportedly was pinned in a vehicle at the Brentwood Road scene, but no information was immediately available on injuries.

It was not known if anyone was hurt in the second wreck.
