Charles Houseworth: No sportsmanship

November 4, 2013

As a once-proud UNC-CH alum, I was embarrassed and disgusted by the football team’s disrespectful behavior following the game against N.C. State.

Coach Larry Fedora could have demonstrated some real leadership by having his team be better sportsmen. But then leadership at my alma mater seems to have been seriously lacking recently. For an example of real sportsmanship, watch the end of the Army-Navy football game in early December. Those teams will fight hard on the field, but once the game is over, they will show total respect for one another.

It is a sign of the times that exemplary behavior is getting harder to find in our society, even in amateur athletics. Very sad indeed.
