By 8 p.m. on Halloween, I was down to about five mini-bags of candy for trick-or-treaters. I was starting to get a little worried about running out when an 8- or 9-year-old girl came to the door. I gave her a bag of candy and remarked, “I hope there are not many more coming since I am just about out of candy.” She held the bag of candy I gave her back toward me and sweetly said, “That’s OK. Would you like to have mine back?” How refreshing! I was touched by this kind child who was thinking of others besides herself. She will probably grow up to be one those people who gives back to the community in which she lives.
