Wreck closes NC 54 in Orange County

From staff reportsNovember 5, 2013

— Three people were hurt Tuesday morning when a tractor-trailer and pickup truck collided on N.C. 54 near Butler Road in Orange County.

Highway Patrol Trooper Matt Morrison said the driver of an eastbound Chevy Silverado pickup truck turned left in front of the westbound rig and was hit. The wreck, which happened shortly before 8 a.m., closed the busy highway while firefighters worked to free the truck’s passenger.

Firefighters from the Orange Grove, White Cross and Carrboro fire departments were at the scene.

Morrison said the truck’s passenger had broken bones, but no life-threatening injuries. Both drivers had minor injuries but were able to walk away from their vehicles.

Troopers have not released the names of those involved in the wreck. The pickup truck’s driver and passenger were taken to UNC Hospitals for treatment, Morrison said.
