RALEIGH — A Raleigh man faces multiple charges of having photographs taken in a Dorton Arena bathroom at the N.C. State Fair last month, sexual exploitation of a minor and secretly using a camera in a room.
Paul William Fantz, 30, of 2930 Calliope Way was charged Oct. 27 with eight counts of each offense and has been held in the Wake County Detention Center since then in lieu of $500,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 18.
In search warrants disclosed this week, Wake County sheriff’s deputies told a magistrate that Fantz also admitted to taking secret pictures at Five County Stadium in Zebulon.
“Mr. Fantz stated the recordings took place at Five County Stadium and the North Carolina State Fairgrounds,” Investigator R.P. Inscore wrote in seeking a search warrant for the content of Fantz’s iPod three days after the arrest.
The case began when a “male patron” told a sheriff’s deputy that someone was using a cellphone to record video of people using urinals in a Dorton Arena restroom.
The patron, whose age was not disclosed, pointed out Fantz leaving the arena. The warrant said the man appeared to be deleting content from his cellphone as the deputy approached.
Inscore and Investigator S.T. Matthews secured search warrants that night for Fantz’s apartment and 2007 BMW. From the apartment, they took the iPod, a tablet computer and laptop and desktop computers.
