Fishing report

Saltwater

Buxton/Hatteras

Puppy drum have been spotted on the jetties. Bluefish are biting off Frisco Pier. Large drum also have been caught off Avon Pier. Spot, bluefish and sea mullet are biting in the northern area of the pier. Ocracoke/Portsmouth

Red drum are biting inshore along with puppy drum and speckled trout. Offshore boats that made it out brought back triggerfish, black sea bass, amberjack and king mackerel. Topsail Island

Bluefish and Spanish mackerel are biting off the pier and in the surf. Spot, Virginia mullet and flounder have been caught in the area. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle, 910-328-1887, www.eastcoastsports.com.

Freshwater

Falls Lake

Bass are starting to move as the lake is turning because of seasonal changes, hitting on spinnerbaits around shallow woods. Crappie are biting on the shoreline, about 8-10 feet down on minnows. Catfish are biting large minnows, night crawlers and chicken livers. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 250.68, full pool 264.8. Contact: Outhouse Tackle, 919-217-0085; www.wmi.org.

Kerr Lake

Crappie have been found over structure and brush. Bass fishing has been tough in the area. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 300, full pool 320. Contact: Bobcat’s Bait & Tackle, 434-374-8381; www.kerrlake.com.
