State charges man with stolen-car scam on insurance company

From staff reportsNovember 7, 2013

— The state state Department of Insurance said Thursday that a Wake County man is facing a felony charge that he reported a car stolen but actually stashed it in the backyard of another house, hidden under a tarp, and collected from his insurance company.

William Henry Bullock, 64, of 417 Three Sisters Road, which carries a Knightdale address, was arrested at his home Wednesday.

Investigators filed one count of obtaining property by false pretense, and Bullock was taken to the Wake County Detention Center and released on $2,000 bail.

He was scheduled for a first appearance in court on Thursday.

According to the Insurance Department, investigators got an anonymous tip that Bullock’s 2002 Ford Mustang was in his girlfriend’s back yard.

She was not charged or named.

Bullock collected $4,600 from Geico Insurance Co. for the car after filing the claim Aug. 27, the department said.
