Chatham teacher one of two arrested in Apex on marijuana charges

— A Chatham County middle-school teacher was arrested along with a 23-year-old man early Thursday by police who charged them with marijuana possession with intent to sell.

Ashley Nichole Dillon, 29, of 2122 Cassowary Lane was arrested about 2 a.m., as was Landon Scott Lucas, 23, who lives at the same apartments.

Lori Carlin, public information officer for the Chatham County schools, confirmed that Dillon is assigned to Horton Middle School in Pittsboro, where she teaches seventh-grade math.

Dillon was hired in August 2011, Carlin said.

Dillon was suspended with pay following her arrest.

The Chatham County school board approved Dillon in July 2012 as the Horton cheer-leading coach, according to meeting minutes published on the district’s website.

Police charged Dillon and Lucas with possession the drug, maintaining a dwelling as a place to keep or sell drugs, both felonies, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Capt. Ann Stephens said police seized about 6 grams of marijuana at Dillon’s apartment.

Lucas was being held of $10,000 bail at the Wake County Detention Center pending a court appearance Thursday.

Dillon posted $10,000 bail and was released late Thursday morning.
