Matchup to Watch

Carmelo Anthony vs. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Jeff Taylor: Bobcats coach Steve Clifford likes that he has a variety of solid wing defenders. He needed them all in dealing with Anthony, who scored 32 on the Bobcats Tuesday in New York.

Observations

• The Knicks are scrambling to adjust how they’ll play without center Tyson Chandler, who is out several weeks with a broken bone in his right leg. It happened in a collision with Bobcats point guard Kemba Walker.

• With Chandler out, 7-footer Andrea Bargnani might play more center after starting at power forward with Knicks.

• The Bobcats have now gone four games without Al Jefferson, out with an ankle sprain. Jefferson did some light shooting before the Knicks game in New York.

Tap-ins

• The Knicks have been without shooting guard J.R. Smith, serving a suspension for violating the NBA’s substance-abuse policy.

• Knicks rookie Tim Hardaway Jr. is the son of the former star point guard for the Miami Heat.

Did you know?

Anthony and Hall of Famer Bernard King are the only two Knicks to lead the NBA in scoring for a season.
