Former Durham policeman charged with killing his wife

— A former Durham police officer has been charged with killing his wife in their home on Cedarwood Drive, the department announced Saturday night.

Timothy W. Burns, 51, was arrested on a warrant charging him with murder in the death of his wife, Maxine Burns, 50, on Friday night.

Timothy Burns was taken to the hospital Friday night and remains hospitalized, police said. He is a former Durham police officer who left the department in the 1990s.
