Panther Creek, state champion Boyden lead All-Metro girls’ tennis team

Panther Creek, the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A champion, and 4A singles champion Susanne Boyden of Wakefield lead the 2013 News & Observer All-Metro girls tennis team.

The Catamounts dashed through the NCHSAA dual-team playoffs with senior Megan Smith being named as the tournament finals most valuable player. Catamount sophomores Sammi Smith and Jordan Strickland, who are 24-1 as a doubles team, repeated as 4A doubles champions.

Wakefield’s Boyden, a sophomore, won the NCHSAA 4A singles championship, defeating 2012 champ Maggie Kane of Broughton in the finals.

Cardinal Gibbons was the NCHSAA 3A dual-team champion and Devin Knors and Lizzie Galash won the doubles title.
