Recap: Boston College vs. Massachusetts

Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Cady Lalanne scored a game-high 27 points as the Massachusetts Minutemen pulled out an 86-73 victory over the Boston College Eagles as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Boston Tip-Off at TD Garden.

Lalanne made good on 12-of-15 field goal attempts and also secured 12 rebounds for UMass (1-0). Chaz Williams added 20 points and Sampson Carter chipped in 12 for the Minutemen.

Ryan Anderson scored 22 points and had seven rebounds for Boston College (0-2). Olivier Hanlan finished with 19 points and Patrick Heckmann had 11 points off the bench.

Boston College made up for its 36.4 percent shooting in the first half by clamping down on defense and holding UMass to 35.5 percent shooting. At the break the Eagles held a 36-32 lead.

After halftime the Minutemen heated up, knocking down 61.8 percent of their field goal tries including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Despite shooting a solid 54.5 percent from the field, the Eagles were unable to keep pace, as they had nine fewer field goals in the period.

UMass had a 44-27 edge on the boards. Boston College outscored the Minutemen, 24-18, from 3-point range.
