Tar Heels lose field hockey title to Terps

— The North Carolina field hockey team fell short of a third consecutive ACC title as top-ranked Maryland earned a 2-0 win Sunday in the championship game at Boston College.

Three Tar Heels – sophomore Emily Wold, junior Samantha Travers and graduate student Janne Grove – were named to the All-ACC tournament team.


UNC: Paige Neuenfeldt posted 11 kills and four blocks to lead North Carolina to a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-15, 25-20) against Georgia Tech.

Duke: The No. 15 Blue Devils used a career performance from senior Chelsea Cook and double-doubles from Breanna Atkinson and Maggie Deichmeister to beat Pittsburgh 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21).


UNC: Top seed Jamie Loeb of North Carolina won the Main Draw Singles with a straight-set victory over second seed Robin Anderson of UCLA at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship in New York.

Duke: Sophomore Beatrice Capra captured the singles consolation title at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship, beating Abigail Tere-Apisah of Georgia State 7-5, 6-4.


N.C. State: The No. 12 Wolfpack tied the program record in the air rifle competition by firing a score of 2,336 to finish first at the South Eastern Air Rifle Conference match.

The Wolfpack remains unbeaten against SEARC competition at 13-0.
