— A Raleigh man is suspected to have shot and seriously wounded another man Monday on Kingstree Court.

Paul Emanuel Gainey, 23, was arrested Monday by the Raleigh Police Department.

He is accused of shooting Alshawn Martel Thomas, 28, multiple times around 2 a.m. Monday on the 3100 block of Kingstree Court, a residential cul-de-sac in southeastern Raleigh.

Thomas remained in serious condition, according to officials at WakeMed‘s Raleigh campus.

A preliminary investigation indicates the crime was not a random act, according to police spokesman Jim Sughrue.

Gainey is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury and with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the incident.

He was held at the Wake County Detention Center in lieu of $350,000 bail on Monday night.
