Police said Michael Deontea Jones, 23, of 682 Ralph Drive in Raleigh was driving a 1992 Chevrolet that collided with the scooter on which Ana Kessel was riding at about 2:45 p.m. Monday.

Kessel was driving north on Rock Quarry Road and Jones was driving south when she began to turn left onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, police said.

Police said Jones left the scene, but he was arrested later in the day.

Magistrates set Jones’ bail at $50,500, and he was being held for a court appearance Tuesday.
