Police seek three in Chapel Hill street assault, robbery near UNC

— Two men were assaulted and one of them was robbed on West Franklin Street, and Chapel Hill police were searching for three men, according to an alert issued to the University of North Carolina campus.

The two victims had talked briefly with three men after the pair left an unidentified business about 2 a.m., the alert said. The trio drove away in a car, but the car pulled along the two men walking on West Franklin Street, and the three men got out and assaulted the other two.

One man had a wallet and cell phone stolen, campus police said in the alert.

Police said the men who were attacked were not UNC students.
