Polly Williams: Wishing for rain on Palm Sunday

November 12, 2013

For the next Raleigh City Council election, I will be a one-issue voter. My candidates will defend the right of residents to travel on the streets their taxes pay for and support. They will not believe the desires of the money-grubbing downtown alliance trump the desires of residents to go where they need to go on the weekends, including to church on Sunday. They will think one road race a year that blocks neighborhood streets is plenty. Raleigh has lots of streets for other routes.

Anyone who studies the route of the Palm Sunday Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon will see that it affects more churches than those right downtown. Palm Sunday next year falls in April. Maybe it will rain.
