Recap: Pacific vs. UC Irvine

Stockton, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ross Rivera tallied 21 points and eight rebounds off the bench as the Pacific Tigers held off the UC Irvine Anteaters, 84-79, at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Sama Taku recorded 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists for Pacific (2-0), and while he shot just 4-of-13 from the field, he made up for it by going 12-of-13 from the foul line. Andrew Bock netted 13 points for the hosts, while Khalil Kelley chipped in 11 points.

Alex Young paced UCI (0-2) with 17 points. Chris McNealy had 15 points, Will Davis II poured in 12 points and Luke Nelson pitched in 11 points in a reserve role.

Even though UCI outshot Pacific from the field in the first half, 52.4 percent to 45.5 percent, the Tigers attempted 12 more field goals than the Anteaters and went into the break with a 43-39 lead.

The contest remained tight throughout the second half, and a Nelson free-throw for UCI with 2:52 left tied the game at 73-73. Pacific scored six unanswered points from there, however, to seal its fate.

The Tigers shot 31-of-37 from the free-throw line on the night, including 8- of-9 in the final minute of the game.
