Wreck closes inbound Western Boulevard in Raleigh for morning commute

— Traffic headed toward downtown on Western Boulevard was diverted for about two hours Wednesday morning because of a vehicle wreck that trapped one person.

Police detoured drivers onto onto Pullen Road, toward Hillsborough Street, after the accident happened about 6:15 a.m. near the intersection of Western Boulevard and Hunt Drive, across from the entrance to Central Prison.

Police reopened the road about 8:30 a.m.

A man was trapped in one of the vehicles involved and had to be freed by firefighters before being rushed to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh.

His name had not been disclosed, and his condition was not immediately available.
