Saltwater

Oregon Inlet

Northeast winds have kept most ships docked during the week, but over the weekend offshore anglers were catching yellowfin tuna and wahoo. Inshore, seabass, bluefish and false albacore were biting. Contact: Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, 252-441-6301, www.oregon-inlet.com.

Buxton/Hatteras

Steady amounts of puppy drum have been caught throughout the week when the weather’s right. At the Avon Pier, sea mullet and spots are biting. Contact: Red Drum Tackle, 252-995-5414, www.hatteras-island.com; offshore news, Oden’s Dock, 252-986-2555, www.odensdock.com; or www.hatterasharbor.com.

Ocracoke/

Portsmouth

Anglers have had a lot of success with puppy drum. Scattered sea mullet and flounder also have been caught. Contact: Tradewinds Bait & Tackle, 252-928-5491, www.fishtradewinds.com; Morris Marina, 252-225-4261, www.portsmouthislandfishing.com.

Cape Lookout/

Bogue Inlet

Inshore anglers are catching trout, flounder and spots. Offshore has been slim, but the wahoo are still biting. Contact: EJW Outdoors, 252-247-4725; Portside Marina, 252-726-7678; www.ncoif.com.

Topsail Island

In the surf and on the piers, blues, Spanish mackerel, spots, speckled trout and pompano have been caught. In the sound, trout have been scattered, but red drum, flounder and blues are biting. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle, 910-328-1887, www.eastcoastsports.com.

Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach

Inshore, speckled trout, flounder and red drum fishing has been good, with scattered spots. Offshore boats that made it out reported success with grouper, sea bass and wahoo. Contact: Tex’s Tackle, 910-791-1763, www.texstackle.com.

Freshwater

Falls Lake

Largemouth bass are biting between 6 to 10 feet of water on 10-inch worms on Texas rigs and crankbaits. Crappie are biting the best at night on live minnows or jigs. Catfish continue to bite on night crawlers. White bass are being caught on rooster tails and blade baits. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 250.48, full pool 264.8. Jordan Lake

Largemouth bass are biting on the points for anglers using crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Crappie have been caught around structures on live baits and large worms. Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 215.85, full pool 240. Contact: Wilsonville General Store, 919-362-7101; Crosswinds Marina, 919-362-5391.

Kerr Lake

Largemouth bass have been caught on crankbaits at depths of 10 to 20 feet. Stripers are biting on bucktails. Crappie are biting on live minnows around structures and brush piles at deep depths. Catfish have been found in the river channels using cut baits. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 298.94, full pool 320. Contact: Bobcat’s Bait & Tackle, 434-374-8381; www.kerrlake.com.

Shearon Harris Lake

Anglers are finding success with l argemouth bass on crankbaits using topwater baits and spoons. Crappie are being caught on minnows or soft plastics. Contact: The Tackle Box, 919-557-8255; www.wmi.org.
