Jake Shimabukuro has embraced the ukulele in ways that Arthur Godfrey and Tiny Tim could never have imagined. The native Hawaiian was not well known beyond his home state until a video of him playing George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” went YouTube viral in 2006. Shimabukuro transposed the iconic tune from six-string to four-string classic in a stunning display of virtuosity. A documentary film, “Jake Shimabukuro: Life on Four Strings,” has aired on PBS, and he has appeared on “A Prairie Home Companion,” “The Today Show,” and other television and radio shows.
